What is Brain Tumor Surgery?
If the brain tumor is located in a place that makes it accessible for
an operation, your surgeon will work to remove as much of the brain tumor as
can be done safely. Some brain tumors are small and easy to separate from
surrounding brain tissue, which makes complete surgical removal possible. Other
brain tumors can't be separated from surrounding tissue or they're located near
sensitive areas in your brain, making surgery risky. In these situations, your
doctor removes as much of the tumor as is safe.
How the surgery is done?
- ·
Removing clotted blood
(hematomas). Bleeding outside or within the brain can result in a collection of
clotted blood (hematoma) that puts pressure on the brain and damages brain
tissue.
- ·
Repairing skull
fractures. Surgery may be needed to repair severe skull fractures or to remove
pieces of the skull in the brain.
- ·
Bleeding in the brain.
Head injuries that cause bleeding in the brain may need surgery to stop the
bleeding.
- ·
Opening a window in
the skull. Surgery may be used to relieve pressure inside the skull by draining
accumulated cerebrospinal fluid or creating a window in the skull that provides
more room for swollen tissues.
Symptoms of Brain Tumor:
• Vomiting
• Blurred Vision or
Double Vision
• Confusion
• Seizures (Especially
in Adults)
• Weakness of a Limb
or Part of the Face
Precautions to be taken after brain tumor
surgery?
- For the first few days, your nurses will help you to avoid straining. Straining might raise the pressure inside your skull.
- · Deep breathing exercises are also a must to avoid developing lung infections.
- · If you feel light-headed or tired after exercising, make sure that you get some rest, and decrease the amount of activity you are doing.
- · You may need to increase your tolerance to exercise slowly.
